VL Studio family was born from a lamp designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for Radiohuset (The Radio House, the headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation) in Copenhagen in the 1940s.

During the making of the Radiohuset, Lauritzen designed a large collection of lamps in collaboration with Louis Poulsen, including the VL 38 table lamp.
